Deep Dish Pizza Pie

Ingredients

  • FOR PIZZA DOUGH
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup yellow maize
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 125ml Olive Pride Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 250ml warm water
  • Flour for dusting and oil for coating
  • FOR SAUCE
  • 30ml Olive Pride Blend of Seeds Oils and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 250g lean beef mince
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 red pepper, chopped
  • 1tbsp dried oregano
  • 1tbsp dried basil
  • 1tbsp ground coriander
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 80ml red wine (optional)
  • 60ml Olive Pride 3 Leaf Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • Tinned chopped and peeled tomatoes
  • 2tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • FOR TOPPINGS
  • 220g flavoured cream cheese
  • 100g Clover Elite Mature Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 60 g parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 12 slices salami
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 1 yellow and 1 green pepper, sliced and cooked
  • 250g mushrooms, sliced and cooked
  • Mozzarella cheese, sliced

Instructions

Preheat oven to 220°C

FOR THE PIZZA DOUGH

In a bowl, sift in the flour and add the maize, pinch of salt, brown sugar and yeast

Add in the oil and mix. Gradually add in the water to form a sticky dough

Place on a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth

Allow to proof for 30-45 minutes while making the sauce

FOR THE SAUCE

In a pan heat the oil over medium heat and brown the meat

Add the onion, garlic and red pepper.

Sauté until onions are soft

Add the oregano, basil and coriander and cook for a further 5 minutes

Add the stock, wine and balsamic. Stir and cook for a few minutes.

add the fresh tomatoes, tinned tomatoes and brown sugar and simmer until reduced by half

Once cooked allow to cool Knock down the dough

Grease a springform pan and line with the dough.

Allow to rest for 5 minutes.

FOR THE TOPPINGS

Combine the cream cheese, cheddar and parmesan and spread along the bottom of the dough

Layer the pepperoni and sliced onion, peppers and mushroom

Top with the thickened and cooled sauce

Top with the mozzarella cheese and bake in the preheated oven

Bake the pizza for 30 minutes or until browned, and cheese is golden

Remove the pizza from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes When ready to serve, cut and lift out of the pan
